Blueglass

Privacy Policy

Effective October 23, 2026

Blueglass is an independent app for the AT Protocol network, the open social network Bluesky runs on. It isn’t made by or affiliated with Bluesky Social, PBC. Blueglass is made by Boyce Software Design, LLC, in the United States, which is responsible for the data described here (“we” below). This policy covers the Blueglass app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and this website.

In short: we don’t run a server that stores your posts or messages, the app sends a small set of usage events to help improve it (which you can turn off), and we never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Your account and posts

Blueglass signs you in to your own account provider (your PDS) and shows you the network through it. Your posts, profile, follows, likes, messages and other activity go to your PDS and the network’s services, under their own privacy policies. For accounts hosted by Bluesky, that’s Bluesky’s privacy policy. Most activity on the network is public by design.

You sign in on your provider’s own page, so the app never sees your password. Your provider gives the app a sign-in token, which is stored on your device and isn’t sent to us.

Usage data

To learn which features help and to run experiments, the app sends usage events to GrowthBook, the service it uses for feature flags and experiments. The events are which experiments and recommendations you see, and whether you take or dismiss a recommendation.

Each event includes the attributes the app uses to decide which features you get. Today those are:

  • your account’s identifier (DID), which is public on the network and identifies your account
  • an ID for this install of the app
  • your device platform and app version
  • your approximate country and region
  • your language settings
  • the screen you were on
  • whether you’re in the beta program

We’ll update this list if the app starts sending anything else. This data is used only to improve Blueglass. It isn’t sold, isn’t used for advertising, and isn’t combined with data from other apps or websites to track you.

You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Privacy and Security › Share Usage Data. When it’s off, the app sends no usage events.

Usage events are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.

Feature flags

When it launches, the app downloads its current feature settings from GrowthBook. Which features you get is decided on your device. This download doesn’t include your account or settings, though GrowthBook sees your IP address, as with any download.

Beta testing and crash reports

If you test Blueglass through TestFlight, Apple shares your name and email with us, along with any feedback, screenshots and crash reports you choose to send. We use them only to run the beta and fix the app.

If you’ve agreed in iOS or macOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may also share crash and performance reports with us. Blueglass doesn’t include a crash reporting service of its own.

Network services the app uses

Like other apps for the network, Blueglass loads content straight from the services that host it, and those services see your IP address when your device contacts them:

  • your PDS, the network’s app view and chat services, and its image and video servers, which load avatars, images and videos as you scroll
  • Bluesky’s GIF service, which searches GIFs and serves the GIFs in posts, so the GIF companies behind it don’t see your IP address
  • Bluesky’s location lookup (ip.bsky.app), which tells the app your approximate country and region for age checks some places require
  • the web pages you link to while writing a post, which the app fetches to make a link preview

Links you open take you to other sites under their own policies.

On your device

Your settings, drafts and caches are stored on your device and aren’t sent to us. They’re removed when you delete the app; signing out removes that account’s sign-in token. They may be included in your device backups, under Apple’s policies.

Service providers

We use these services to run Blueglass, and they process data only as described above:

  • GrowthBook: feature flags and usage events, in the United States
  • Apple: distribution through the App Store and TestFlight, and crash reports
  • Cloudflare: this website and our contact email

Blueglass is run from the United States, so data we receive is processed there.

This website and email

blueglass.social uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Cloudflare processes visitors’ IP addresses to serve and protect the site. When you sign in, your account provider fetches a small file from this site that describes the app; that request doesn’t include anything about you.

If you email us, we keep the conversation to help you and delete it when it’s no longer needed.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the data we receive, but no system is perfectly secure.

Children

Blueglass isn’t directed to children under 13, and the network’s account providers set their own minimum ages. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Your rights and choices

You can turn off usage data in Settings at any time. To ask about, see, correct or delete the usage data tied to your account, email support@blueglass.social with your handle, and we’ll respond within 30 days. To delete your account and posts, use your account provider’s own settings or site.

If you’re in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on our legitimate interest in improving the app to collect usage events, and you can object at any time by turning them off. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

We don’t sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. For significant changes, we’ll also let you know in the app.
